Geographical data

Geographical Location

According to the geographical location on the territory of Romania , Ciuhoi is situated on the western part of the parallel-crossing of 47 o 15 l northern latitude and 22 o 8 l eastern longitude. In Bihar County the village Ciuhoi is situated on the central-northern part.
The settlement Ciuhoi is situated by 1 km from the country road D.J. 191- Oradea – Marghita, at a distance of 35 km from the town Oradea . The residence of the parish is the sattlement called Ciuhoi. The tehnical equipment is represented by electric current, the existance of the piped telephone network, drinking water supply, waste management. The travelling possibilities between Oradea and Ciuhoi is assured by the road transport.

Settlements on the nearby

Ciuhoi is in the neighbourhood of the territory of the parish called Sălard on the western part. In the morphological point of view this limit runs through the lower plain and the downhill of the Barcău, as well as the higher plain.
On the south it's in the neighbourhood of the parish called Sîrbi and its south-eastern side is beside the parish called Spinuş. This borderline is the easiest to follow as it goes parallel with the country road DJ 191 Oradea - Marghita, morphologically laid on the superior terrace of the Barcău. The eastern limit sepparates it from the parish called Chişlaz on the northern-southern direction running through the terraces and downhill of the Barcău as well as the higher plain. On the north Ciuhoi is bordered by the territory of the parish Săcuieni. The limit between these two parishes is hard to define because of the relief of this high plain and of the woody vegetation.

Relief

The reliefic unit on which Ciuhoi is laying is that of the plain and there are more subdivisions of the plainy relief in here which are laying parallel with the Barcău towards which they are falling off by inches. Thus on the north is situated the higher plain, on the central part there is the downhill of the Barcău with its minor bed and on the south the terraces of the Barcău.

Hydrographical network

The territory of the parish Ciuhoi belongs to the hydrographical basin of the Barcău which in its own nature makes a part of the hydrographical basin of the Crişuri. The Barcău is the main collector of water in this area with a density of 0,38 km/km 2 of the hydrographic network.
The direction of streaming of the Barcău is from east to west following the general godown of the relief.
The main affluent of the Barcău is the Sînicolau Valley on the right; its direction of streaming is north-eastern and south-western and the affluents on the left side are the brooks called Almăşel, Ghepişul and Danţa.

The characteristics of the river Barcău

The length of the river is 15 km on the territory of Ciuhoi, with a medium width of 30 m; the medium depth of the water is 4 m and in normal weather it is of 1,5 m. The streaming of the river Barcău seems to be very variable; curves, abandoned arms, bequests on lower places with water stagnations. All these features characterise it as an old, slow river. The valley is assimmetrical with its sticky right bank and its oblong left bank, as a result of the river wishing to form in the past its terrace only on the left side. The hydrographical characters of this river show us that the Barcău is a very capricious river with high oscilations of runoffs and levels, as much in a year, as on a longer period.
In a year the maximum streaming of the river can be detected in spring when about 40% of the yearly quantity passes off.
The minimum streaming of the river can be detected in summer. At the beginning of autumn about 7-14% passes off of the yearly quantity.
The local natural and social-economic factors bring over important modifications, thus the water of the Barcău represents a very high level of pollution, thanks to the sludge of the oil refinery in Suplacul de Barcău.
At the end of the 19th century the water of the river Barcău had been deviated through a channel towards the Grinding Mill. The mill had functioned with the help of the water of the Barcău till 1950. In 1940 a generator was put in function from which the inhabitants of the village Sâniob had got electric current.
In 1970 a protecting barrage was built against the flood on both coasts.
There is only one single bridge built on the river Barcău in our area. The length of the bridge is 25 m, and its width is 5 m; its weight is 250 t. The bridge is built of reinforced concrete.

The Sînicolau Valley was formed on the higher plain. In spring there is a high quantity of water in here which makes the area marshy; for the river controll and the prevention of the flood it has been drained on the inferior middle streaming. The length of the brook on the territory of Ciuhoi is 3 km, its surface width is 10 m and on the bottom 3 m; the depth of the water in normal weather is 60 cm.

The Almăşelul Valley represents the characteristics of a typical plain-brook with a lot of curves and with many runoffs. In spring, thanks to the great floods, it overflows huge areas and it holds up the connection between the villages Cenaloş and Ciuhoi. Because of these problems there were taken steps for the extension and sinking of the Almăşelul in 1981. The length of the Almăşelul is 3 km on the territory of Ciuhoi, its width on its mouth is 7 m, on its bottom it is 3 m; the depth of the water in normal weather conditions is 40 cm.

The Ghepeşul Valley flows through Ciuhoi on a distance of 2 km, its width is 6 m on the surface and 2 m at the bottom; its normal depth is 40 cm.

Danţa is a 2 km long brook on the territory of Ciuhoi, its width is 6 m on its mouth and 2 m at the bottom; its normal depth is 30 cm; it was dammed on its whole length.
